I will be glad to say good-bye to 2009. It has been my most difficult year by far. I'm determined to make 2010 significantly better. It is looking unlikely that I will be able to return to my previous work, so I will be putting together other options. That is scary, but I'm looking at it as a chance to be creative and who knows what may come of the searching? Above all else, as difficult as this year has been for me, I get to live and life is fabulous, not always evident in those tough times, but fabulous nonetheless.

I like what you wrote, Beth. When I have these moments of appreciation and gratitude for life, no matter what has happened or is happening, I know I am in the right place.

What to say about 2009? Bat was diagnosed with cancer and went through hell....and yet she was also pronounced cancer-free in the same year. My health wasn't good in 09 but it is surely improving as of today....and we attended 3 Janis concerts this month!

A dear friend from my childhood "found" me on Facebook and we saw each other this month for the first time in over 36 years...and met up for 2 Janis concerts...and played music together. And she is now visiting me today and tonight we are playing a New Year's Eve gig.

I really can't complain. I am expecting 2010 and life in general to continue to get better and better and better.......

Wishing everyone good health and happiness in the new decade, and the resilience to deal with the inevitable crap that life throws our way.

I got a letter a couple of weeks ago that I have been anxiously awaiting, and at the stroke of midnight, I will officially be CDR Oak Kitten USNR RETIRED. Yeeeeee Haaaaa! (I still have to stay alive for another ten years before I can collect retirement pay).

I'm babysitting the two grandsons tonight. Had them both tucked in by 8:00, talked on the phone with my partner who is sick at home with this cold/flu that is going around and am now about to stretch out on the couch in front of the tv. While I don't like not being with my partner tonight (I will be home tomorrow afternoon for our traditional new years day supper of lobster & crab legs...IF she's well enough to want it) I can't say it's an altogether bad way to begin a new year with my adored boys hugging my neck.

Marcia, I know this has been a difficult year for you and Bat but judging by recent photos that have been posted, it seems that in the final run you two have emerged stronger than that which tested you.

And Beth...you, too, have stared down the devil and are on your way making your way back. After two brain surgeries our daughter was told by her cardio doc that she simply could not continue as an O.T. After getting over the shock of having her career taken away at 32, she found ways of still keeping her foot in the door...can't now remember exactly what it is she does but it's all done online, still has to do with medical/theraputic issues and pays well. Am confident that given a little time and improved health that you will also find a way to find work that is of value to you.
