View Full Version : Urgent request for Rudie power

Dragonlady called last night to say that she is having emergency surgery to remove her inflammed gall bladder today at noon. She has been in a significant amount of pain and the MD said her gall bladder was loaded with stones, some of which may have migrated to her ducts.

She is hoping that she can have this surgery on an out-patient basis as there is a chance they can do it with laproscopy (sp?) however, if that is not possible and they have to do a bigger surgery she will have to stay in the hospital longer.

So please send all Rudie good thoughts and prayers to Dian - Kathleen will be right by her side. As soon as I hear anything I will let you all know.

Thanks

IB

Oh my, that sounds painful! Rudie power coming in from Massachusetts. Keeping my fingers crossed that they can do the minimally invasive procedure.

Please convey my best wishes and empathy. (I had exactly the same problem 18 months ago, with the same treatment, and all is now well.) So I wish you the same luck, Dragonlady, and if it is a 'lap choly' they do, then you may be well be walking around again within an hour or so. :D

Take care,

Drats! I just wrote a beautiful lyrical message to the board & of course I lost it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's try again, but I am at work & may need to break this off.

Dearest Rudies,

Thank you for the support & good wishes. Dian is indeed doing well and will probably drop in later today.

The relief was profound when the surgeon poked his head in & let me know that they had sucked that gallbladder & its gallstones out & she should need no further procedures. She's sore, uncomfortable & foggy, but so much better than earlier in the week.

Facing the pain & mortality of the person who matters the most to you in the world is sobering (ok, once she was home I may have indulged a little, but it was in warm skim milk so that makes it OK, <giggle>). I am here at work today and nothing here with its petty problems and annoyances can really touch my core, my perspective has been contracted & strectched so that what is closest to my heart is what matters the most. Very few of us in this time or any other can really say that we have or can change the whole world. But the thousands of small interactions, thoughts and actions that we all commit in our lifetimes are the the important ones.

shoot must run, more later

Kathleen

Great news, Changeling! I know whereof you speak...nothing is important when the one you love is in pain. I remember the last time I took Marcia to the Emergency room...I forgot my teeth, and I really didn't give a damn.
So happy Dian will be ok!

...alive and sorta kicking!! Moving slowly and in pain but that should ease up once the various gases they pump into your abdomen get out of my system and I can get the residual anesthesia out of my lungs I should feel much better.

I'm really glad that the surgery stayed a laproscopy (even with all those gases in my belly) and they didn't have to make it a more invasive surgery. Rudie power at work once again. :)

Doc says I can go back to work on Monday if I feel like it..we'll see... it might be Tuesday. It can't be later than Tuesday or FMLA leave is supposed to kick in. But I'm not eligible for that yet. You need to be at your job 12 consecutive months before that applies, I've only been there 6. :(

My only concern at this point is that my incisions stay clear of infections and heal up quick. They don't feel too good simply based on where they are placed.

I'm really lucky to have Kathleen in my life. The number of times she's had to drop everything and take me to the ER... ...unbelievable! Her boss is a very understanding man in this regard.

I appreciated coming back to the board to find so many get well wishes. Rudies Rule!

Dian... so happy to have you back and almost kickin'! Stay away from the oils and body lotions for a while and those incisions should heal up just fine. Keeping my fingers crossed that the return to work will be as comfortable as possible.

see...I'm building up the strength to go back to work. I'll probably be wiped out by 5:00 but hopefully I'll make it the whole day. I'm still in some pain but nothing like before. I hurt just from the surgery now and I'm stiff, moving kinda slow. I feel like I could sleep for about another week but it's time to start earining that paycheck again...:D!

Thanks for everything ya'll,

Hey Di! Don't push it! Can't you start with half-days and see how you feel? Or at least give yourself a break if you feel like you need to go home a little early. It's no comparison, but when I had *THE* flu several years ago, it took about 2 weeks until I was really back to normal/abnormal!! Worked a few half-days until my strength came back.

Boy am I pooped! One tired dragon tonight! I'm glad we're in a low production cycle at the moment.

Don't worry Marcia, my boss will send me home if I'm wobbling too much. Just really tired and sore from moving around.

I have a pain level to watch for and if I'm in too much pain by Thursday something is wrong and I'll get checked out. So far I think it's just left over from surgery. I need to build back up to my normal workday.

You all are wonderful and Kathleen is my rock. I don't know what I'd do without her. I'm damn sure not gonna find out either! :)

-di

will catch up with the rest of the board later...bedtime for me.
